Fixing A Pipe with Tape!

We know, it sounds crazy. But we are going to let you in on a plumber’s secret weapon: Pipe Leak Tape.

Fixing A Pipe with Tape

Below, you’ll learn about the different types of pipe tape, when to use them and how long this quick fix will last!

Tape Types

  1. Silicone Tape: Also known as “self-fusing” or “leak repair” tape, this type is right for cracks or other issues not occurring on your jointed pieces of pipe. This tape does not actually stick to anything but itself – but can be used reliably to create a wrap that is tight and waterproof. You can think of this type as a sort of ace bandage for your pipes.
  2. Pipe Thread Tape: Also known as “Teflon,” this type takes over where Silicone fails: at the joints. It creates a seal that is watertight, but can be removed quickly and easily. You can think of this type as more of an adhesive band-aid.

Tape Life Expectancy

Silicone tape, while useful, is not a permanent solution. You can use it to prevent a leak from getting leakier while you wait for a plumber. Pipe thread tape on the other hand can last for ages, but make sure to check it regularly and replace it when needed.

Ultimately, both products are surprising and simple to use products that provide a fix – either temporary or permanent.
