Force Main

A force main can be used in combination with other types of water mains when the terrain calls for it. Forced mains are discharged for water and sewer piping. The purpose of these is to ensure that backflow is prevented by using gravity. Gravity forces waste to flow in a particular direction so that backflow does not occur, causing odors and public health violations. The best part about a force main is that no power is required.
