Summer in South Cook County: How to Enjoy It Before It Ends
Summer is quickly coming to a close, and you have just a handful of days left to enjoy before it’s back to the grind of school, vacation-free work days, and fall weather. Make the most of what you have left with these last, but certainly not least, summer events. Here are our top three events to hit before the school year starts.
Music & Food Lovers
The DeKalb Corn Fest is back and celebrating its 39th year as one of the last free music festivals of Illinois. The fun begins this Friday in Downtown DeKalb and doesn’t stop until Sunday. Enjoy the sounds of blues, rock, and country music from the sound stage and don’t miss the Chuck Siebrasse Corn Boil where over 70 tons of sweet corn will be served from 11am – 2pm on Saturday.
Pet Lovers Unite
Mercury’s Canine Cruise is the perfect excuse to spend some time out on the water and bond with your furry best friend. It also offers the opportunity to meet people who love pooches as much as you do! Mercury’s Canine Cruise is perfect for pet-lovers new to the city as the tour points out dog-friendly restaurants, hotels, and parks along the way. The Skyline Queen also offers common sense amenities like water bowls and dog-friendly “restrooms” to ensure everyone’s comfort and convenience.
Great for Kids
If you’re looking for a fun family event, Lamb’s Farm Famous Farmyard offers something for the whole family. Just 35 miles out of Chicago, this reasonably priced farmyard entertains kids and adults alike with a diverse petting zoo, mini golf, a 450 lb. pig with a taste for doughnuts, and an adorable miniature horse. Take a leisurely ride on the farm train or watch your kiddos enjoy the vintage-style horse carousel.
